Taiwan chipmakers

UMC said its revenue in January declined by 31.6 per cent from the previous month to NT$3.15 billion, representing a plunge of 61.62 per cent year-on-year.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) (TAIEX:2330) and United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) (TAIEX:2303), Taiwan's two biggest contract chip manufacturers, on Tuesday both posted a decline in business revenue in January.

TSMC's consolidated revenue in January totalled about NT$13.13 billion (US$387 million), representing a nine per cent decrease from the previous month, and a big drop of 57.8 per cent year-on-year.
